I've been heavily bitten by the time lapse bug lately, so instead of being lazy and staying warm inside by my window, I decided that me, my camera and my tripod would be going out today, to Höchst, where I lived before. Many inhabitants of my city are not aware that it is not just industrial wasteland, but that Höchst also has a castle, the eldest remaining ferry across the river Main and a lot of green and blue.
PS: The title refers at the same time to the name of the district as well as implying that it is the "highest evening" ;-)
Today, I'm going to adorn myself with borrowed plumes :D
Well, not exactly, since I am not claiming to be the creator of these paintings. They were given to me by a very artistic friend - thank you :-) - I just hung them up in my flat.
Today's post is not one picture but 89, combined in a five-second-video. This is my first attempt at timelapse and, like I read on some site yesterday while searching for free timelapse software, once you have started, "you can never go back - only fast forward".
Some say the star effect (that you get with a long exposure and a small aperture) is dated. But since I haven't been around in those days - photographically speaking - I still like it.
I love the combination of light eyes and dark hair. And even though you can see only one light green eye, a few lashes (due to the wide aperture) and part of an eyebrow, you get an idea of the hair colour: as dark brown as lashes and brows.
I don't live in a tropical climate, so I can't enjoy hundreds of multicoloured flowers and insects all through the year. The only option I have in winter is going to the Palmengarten (palm garden) and that's where I found this blossom and its ant population:
What I particularly like about this picture - other than the half-heart shape of the street light of course - is the colour gradient in the sky, from lightest turquoise to a cloudless sky-blue.
Even before going to the UK for the first time, I knew of course that the McCartneys are/were vegetarians and that Linda McCartney in particular was promoting vegetarian food - the statement to eat "nothing with a face" was coined by Paul McCartney.
But the fact that there is even vegetarian convenience food signed Linda McCartney is something I learned only two weeks ago. Tastes pretty good btw...
This is the first panorama shot I'm uploading to my blog and actually the first one I created with my DSLR that I'd be at least half way happy with. I mean it's not great but it's not perfectly sucky either. But it could be better.
The software I used for this picture is the one that came with the camera - PhotoStitch. There was one with my old camera but I somehow lost it (the software, not the camera) and I think it was better. But now I don't even remember what it was called. Anyway, if you have some experience with panorama software and can recommend a good one, please do! I'll owe you and be forever grateful ;-)
PS: Am I boring you with London photos? I don't care :p
I can't see snow pictures anymore or birds or even people for a while. So here is a nice still-life.. at least I think it's nice. It shows the predecessor of my camera, although with some additional equipment and - what of course matters most - an equally crazy but considerably more skilled photographer behind it. Gone for a walk right now though :D
This is one of the photos I took of London Eye while waiting for the New Year's fireworks to begin. One out of many - you can take a lot of pictures during a 9-hour-wait. The effect results from slowly zooming in, from 18 to 55mm.
*And no, there is nothing wrong with it as R. assumed, it is supposed to be like that ;-)
...road. This is one of the steep, snowy paths we took in the Snowdonia national park in Northern Wales. I think I would like to go back there in summer or spring...
We visited St Albans when the weather was everything but inviting - rainy, cold, unpleasant. So one hour was spent in the famous cathedral. The friendly guide commented on me and my tripod and even advised me to take pictures behind the screen now, before the service would start in a few minutes.
Before the big firework, we were walking London's most touristy spots and yes, "shooting" those tourists.. and some natives, too. *And of course the title holds the promise of a soundtrack within.
Hello, everyone, I'm back! And to open this year, I want to show you my best fireworks-in-London picture. We waited for 9 (!) hours at 2°C to see a 10-minute show but it was all worth it. Towards the end, one of us would jokingly say "Ok, we've waited long enough, let's go home ;-)".
The reason that this blog is not updated at the moment is that I am currently in the UK, learning from the best :D But I will be back on the 8th January with millions of great pictures. Just to give you a few clues: London, fireworks, Windsor, Oxford and many many interesting people.
